| About Amazing Stories Amazing Stories was founded by Brian Komm in 1996. Brian's love of comics started at an early age - he was reading and drawing comics before he even started kindergarten. By age 15 he was running a table at the local comic-con - sometimes to sell comics, sometimes to sell art. The first shop was a tiny 800 sq. ft. (that included the bathroom and closets!) It was hard going at first - but by trial and error Amazing Stories has grown into the business that it is today. We moved to our present 1800 sq. ft. location in Vancouver in 1999, and just opened our second shop in Astoria, Oregon on Halloween 2006. We currently have a staff of five friendly knowledgeable individuals. Brian - Owner, Comic Master and Former Big Dog. If you are looking for a recommended read, that perfect card for your Magic deck, or a board game review - Brian is your guy. Brian is currently pursuing his dreams of working in the art industry. Submitting samples of his art to many of your favorite game and comic companies. When he is not working on his art, he is giving individual Art Lessons at the Astoria store. Sessions are 30 minutes long and are scheduled before and after store hours. A few time slots are still available, if interested give us a call at the Astoria shop - 1-503-325-5518. Brian has recently lost over 110 pounds - if you find them, you can keep them. René - Co-Owner, Brian's wife, and All-Around Wonder Chick. René is very involved behind the scenes - making things run smoothly and efficiently. She is Brian's right hand. She is responsible for updating the website, finding/purchasing the cool items for Astoria, doing the fun stuff like bookkeeping and payroll, and fielding calls from The Comic Shop Workers Union. René and Brian work the Astoria shop and are at the Vancouver shop on Tuesday mornings. Jason - Front Counter Clerk, Rocker, & All-Around Sharp Dressed Man. Jason is on the front lines in Vancouver 5 days a week. If you have a question about comics or Dungeons & Dragons, odds are he'll know the answer. He is a jack-of-all-trades - an awesome asset to the Amazing Stories staff. Shawn - Counter Dude & Imaginary Idol Shawn is an international superstar, with millions of fans. No one is quite sure why Shawn is famous though. All that is known is that he is constantly imitated and idolized. Unfortunately, Shawn was unable to secure the rights to his own face and in 2002 Imaginary Inc. began producing products with Shawn's image. In 2006, Imaginary reported a $2.3 billion profit off of Shawn merchandise for the fiscal year. "One of the bigger hassles is the fan mail," says Shawn. Daily he receives about 300 pounds of letters and items from his fans. Tim - Charismatic Keeper of Comics and Curiosities Tim has been a comic fan for more years than he'll admit. He's older than Marvel. Previously an aspiring rock star, he still has music he recorded in the 80's hair band days. Also a major movie buff, he knows all about the newest films being made for comic lovers. Recently retired from the car business, he decided it was time to have some fun doing what he loves. Working at Amazing Stories is great! He gets to talk about comics and games all day. Now if he could only find a band to spend some evenings with...... |
